Goal Setting is Not What You Think It Is
When most of us think about goals, the reason we think we want to achieve that goal is because of how we think we will feel when we get there. The truth is we have the ability to feel that feeling right now.
Before you go and make popcorn to spend the rest of your existence in front of Netflix, because there is no longer any reason to try, let me tell you why we create goals.
We create goals because it is fun! We create goals because it shows us what is possible and what we are capable of. We create goals because it gives our brain a focus and direction. We create goals because of the potential value we can bring the world. We create goals because of who we become in the process!
Just 6 months ago I heard this and I said to myself, I can feel the emotion now of abundance and accomplishment, I want a big goal to focus my brain, I passionately want to help people… I really want to make $1000,000 for fun – so I can maximise my experience on this earth with the people I love most. The idea of “who I become in the process” was definitely a lesser priority to these ones.
BUT HANG ON ONE SECOND! Who we become in the process is huge. I don’t want you to diminish it like I did. I want to share with you a list of what humans need to have objective “well being” that was created by two incredibly intelligent people who are trailblazing research in the area of positive psychology.

5. Autonomy

The process of setting and taking action to hit goals is how you grow as a person, evolve as a person, step into your higher self, however you want to describe it, it’s a fundamental part of experiencing well being.
I want to give you a little tip on how to use your mind to reach your goal. Think of a goal you have right now. If you don’t have one, now is the perfect moment to create one! And once you have that goal in mind, sit down and imagine who you will be once you have reached that goal.
For me I imagine myself having earned $1000 000. I’m confident, I can speak my mind, I can get up in front of a crowd and talk about my work and the passion I have for the value I am contributing to the world. I can answer questions and if I don’t have the answer I am confident that it doesn’t make me a lesser person, my time is valuable, my family is still my priority, I am great at delegating and managing people. I get up in the morning prepared for anything that comes my way, I look and feel professional, I have a great money mindset, big obstacles don’t frighten me, I don’t get frozen by overwhelm and I manage my mind.
Once you know the person you need to be in the future, remember to practice those feelings and start stepping into that person right now!
In order for you to reach that goal you have set yourself, you need to believe that you can achieve it, expect self doubt, shame and fear to come up too, but by the time you reach your goal, it’s not going to be a surprise that you have achieved it, you will have already have experienced it in your mind.
